Firefly Press has long specialized in custom design, every job from books to birth announcements considered as the unique thing it is. This process can be time-consuming, however, and to be fully successful requires face-to-face meetings. For people who love true letterpress and who like “the Firefly look” but who can’t conveniently visit our shop in Boston, we are developing semi-standardized lines of social stationery. This printing is done in the same way and to the same standards as our fully customized work, but with a limited range of choices (all of them good choices, we believe), the time, complication and expense of custom work can be reduced.

Ink Colors

Available ink colors are black, Dutch Fireball Red (Pantone 185), Liberty Blue (Pantone 293), and our own Firefly Green (equal parts Process Blue and Yellow, unaccountably not shown in Pantone swatch books). Letterpress puts down more ink than does offset printing, so our colors are deeper and more saturated than they appear on standard color charts. Invitations may be printed in one or two colors.

Papers

Three paper finishes are available, each in two shades: felt-finish Strathmore Pastelle (with a single deckled edge on invitation card and flap of envelope) in fluorescent white or natural white; wove-finish Strathmore Writing in bright white or natural white, and laid-finish Neenah Classic laid in natural white or ivory. Invitation cards can be flat or folded. Invitation cards and envelopes can be A6 (4½x6 inch card) or A7 (5x7 inch card) depending on the number of lines of copy. Reply cards and envelopes, if desired, are printed on A2 size cards (4 1/8 x 5 ¼ inches).
